The conversion happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing for us to keep.
Text stays text
Zip codes, product codes, IDs, dates and gene names are saved as text. Plain numbers stay numbers, so you can still add them up.
See it before you save
The preview marks every value that Excel would have changed, so you know what was protected.
Questions
Which numbers stay numbers?
Whole and decimal numbers with no leading or trailing zeros and at most 15 digits, such as 42 or 3.5. Anything longer or padded is kept as text, because Excel can only hold 15 digits of a number. Tick “Keep every cell as text” if you want no numbers at all.
Does it work with semicolons and tabs?
Yes. It picks the separator from your file, and reads UTF-8 and UTF-16 text, including accents and other alphabets.
Is there a size limit?
Your browser's memory is the limit. A sheet holds up to 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns, and you will be told if your file is bigger.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The file you save opens in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets.
